Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand

Empowering deaf and hearing-impaired students to reach their potential.

Ko Taku Reo Tour

Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand forms an integral part of Ormiston Senior College, it delivers services to deaf and hearing-impaired students and families around the North Island, and is committed to ensuring these students reach their full potential. Students are enrolled in the Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand and attend a Deaf Provision facility (satellite unit) in selected partner schools throughout Auckland. Ormiston is one of the satellite units for Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand.

Students are part of the school, while also having their own space on the second floor of the school. They are taught in the Deaf Provision area by Specialist Teachers of the Deaf for English language and New Zealand Sign Language/Deaf Studies. For all other subjects they attend mainstream classes and are fully involved in all aspects of school life. When attending classes students may have an education specialist with them to ensure full access to the curriculum.

The Ko Taku Reo Deaf Education New Zealand also employs a Specialist Services team (Speech Language Therapists, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, a Psychologist and School Counsellor) who visit students attending partner schools.
